While the classical newspaper business model calls for a paper to be supported by its advertiser and subscribers, truth be told, there just isn't the advertising base in Emmitsburg to support a good community paper, and the cost of setting up an accounting system to track subscribers is cost prohibitive. So instead, the chronicle is approach funding the paper with a mixture of ad revenue and public contributions - much like National Public Radio.

No contributions is to small. To paraphrase a seasoned politician, a few dollars here, and a few dollars there, and pretty soon your talking real money.

We understand only too well that in today’s hard economic times many in the community don’t have the means for even a token contribution. But it’s in economic conditions like today that a community needs a paper like the Woodsboro-Walkersville News-Journal.

Like any family, we are pinching every penny to make sure every dollar is spent wisely. Much of the staff, including myself  draws a salary or is compensated in any way for our time or expenses. Every dime we get goes towards producing the paper. We don’t have any fancy offices, fancy computers, or the latest communications gadgets.

Instead of wasting money on frills, we’re investing your money into top notch news reporting and quality articles. Articles which we hope years from now will still warm your hearts or bring a smile to your face.

So we ask those who do have the means to dig as deep as they can into their pockets as they can and help provide us the means to keep producing the paper to a standard that will make everyone who calls, or has called Emmitsburg home, proud.
