We read every article we receive, and we appreciate the interest and value the views of those who take the time to send us articles. Due to space limitations, however, all articles are subject to abridgment and the determination of relevance by the Editor. Because of the volume of articles we receive, we cannot respond individually to the authors of letters we are unable to use.

If you prefer to send your article by surface mail, please send to the following address:

Emmitsburg News-Journal
P.O. Box 543
Emmitsburg, Maryland 21727

We will not publish unsigned articles. No advertising will be allowed unless it promotes or benefits a non-profit organization. The Emmitsburg News-Journal will not published articles it considers pejorative.

A writer decreases his or her chances of being selected for publication if the article exceeds 1,500 words. If your article story is selected for publication, you may be called for verification.

Tables and illustrations, while rarely necessary, must be e-mailed separately to editor@emmitsburg.com. When e-mailing such material, clearly identify the letter with which it should be included by providing the title and authors of the article and the authors of the letter. Electronic illustrations must be in TIFF format. Do not embed images into other software programs (e.g., a word processing program). Note we do not accept Excel or PowerPoint files. Image files should be named appropriately, including the number of the figure (e.g., Figure1.tif, Figure2.eps, etc.). When using a digital camera to create your images, we recommend, if possible, that you set the camera to save in TIFF format (not JPEG), set the resolution to a minimum of 300 ppi (pixels per inch), and set the size of the image to 5 × 7 in (127 × 178 mm). The resolution of your electronic images is critical and is directly linked to how well they will appear when printed.
